Pediatric Dentistry

Our children are the most precious members of our families, so it makes sense that you want to take them to a dental office where they will get the care they need and have a positive experience.

At the office of Craig S. Weinstein, DMD, we not only invite children to our office, we encourage you to bring them to us for every stage of their dental care. Our entire team loves working with kids and helping them get started on the right foot when it comes to healthy smiles.

Your Child’s First Dental Visit

You should schedule your child’s first dental visit shortly after they get their first tooth or by one year of age, whichever comes first. While this initial visit may seem early, it is essential because it allows us to monitor growth and development, as well as communicate with parents about home care.

You will have an opportunity to ask questions about taking care of your child’s teeth at home, and we will have a chance to look at your child’s teeth and discuss their oral health with you.

These early childhood appointments help create a positive foundation for excellent oral health.

As Your Child Develops

As your child grows, we will recommend additional preventive dentistry treatments to keep their smile healthy and comfortable! Some of the treatment options we will offer as your child grows include:

  • Pediatric dental exams
  • Professional dental cleanings
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Sealants
  • Bitewing x-rays

Decay is the most common preventable childhood disease. Fortunately, fluoridated water municipalities, fluoride toothpaste, and fluoride treatments have all dramatically reduced childhood (and adult) decay. Not all water municipalities have sufficient fluoride, so we offer treatments to help strengthen your child’s enamel and protect their baby teeth.

Why Baby Teeth Are Important

You might think it is no big deal if baby teeth need to be extracted, but primary teeth actually provide guidance for your child’s permanent teeth and play an important role in their long-term oral health.

Restorative Dentistry

If your child ever requires a filling, we will make sure they have a comfortable experience by working at their pace. We explain treatment in terms kids understand so we can eliminate fears about dentistry. We use tooth-colored fillings, which are both strong and attractive.

If your child has deep grooves in their teeth or they like to enjoy sweet snacks, dental sealants provide a barrier between bacteria and the surface of your child’s teeth. They cost a fraction of what fillings cost and are a good, non-invasive way to protect your little one’s smile.
